Rebels on Lake Erie

for a presentation of “Rebels on Lake Erie.”
A tale of intrigue, conspiracy, and adventure, set against the backdrop of the Civil War.
The Lawrence County Historical Society is proud to announce its upcoming speaker event, “Rebels on Lake Erie” with Jim Carnes, Mercer County Historical Society’s Civil War expert.
“Rebels on Lake Erie” tells the story of a raid on a Confederate Prisoner-of-War camp located on Johnson Island, Lake Erie, near Sandusky, Ohio. The Confederate guerillas’ raid, led by John Yates Beal, was designed to liberate Confederate officers, first taking them North to Canada and ultimately back down South where Confederate Army Officers were desperately needed.
RESERVATIONS are strongly encouraged as seating is limited.
