Early Years of Black Cinema

This program will take a look at and discuss some of the earlier Black performers and movies.

Father of African American filmmakers
Also, in the presentation will be Oscar Micheaux, often thought of as the father of African American filmmakers, an independent producer of more than 44 films both silent and talkies. Jean will provide a timeline of these films
EVENT SPEAKER: S. Jean Speight
For several years, Historical Society member, S. Jean Speight, has been creating exciting programs for the Society for Black History Month. Mrs. Speight, a retired New Castle teacher, has presented programs locally, throughout Pennsylvania, and in other states. She frequently collaborates with board member, Stephanie Fulena, whom Mrs. Speight refers to as her “tech” person.
